PVC-free Kavalan Sunlight Weldable banner material available exclusively from CMYUK features in permanent outdoor gallery in Soho, London.

It is not often that you get to see sustainability in print in action in Central London, but this example is really inspiring not least because our headline partner, Kavalan has provided the material of choice! Last week I had a meeting in central London and had the opportunity to check out an inspiring exhibition of arresting and inspiring climate change images and photos. They certainly grabbed the attention of any passerby and have contributed to a very successful exhibition at the Photographer’s Gallery in Soho.

The latest outdoor exhibition in London to be staged features the work of contemporary photographer Gideon Mendel. Entitled Fire and Flood, over 200m 2 of photographic images were digitally printed onto Kavalan Sunlight Weldable banner material. They were installed along several alleys, streets, and on the façade of the building opposite the Gallery itself.

“Once again PVC-free Kavalan has demonstrated that it is an industry disruptor and bonafide game-changer,” said Damien Clarke, Sales Director (materials) CMYUK.

“The use of PVC-free Kavalan underpins this exhibition with a sustainable narrative. Sunlight Weldable is strong and can withstand environmental stresses. It comes in roll widths of up to 5m to provide a seamless aesthetic that elevates the overall creative appeal of the imagery. The photography is stunning, and I understand that the photographer was very happy with the quality of the output.”

The printing and installation for this space was carried out by MacroArt, which was appointed for this iconic project by place-making and events specialist Field and Lawn.

In addition to the large-scale graphics, MacroArt’s Senior Project Manager, Andrew Conway and his team devised a bespoke free-standing 45m x 4.5m frame structure that covered the façade of the building opposite the Gallery.

Standing proud, it provides a central reusable unobtrusive display solution for the work, whilst accommodating venting, service electrics, and lighting.

Rebecca Crofton, Senior Project Manager at Field & Lawn said, “The results speak for themselves. The Photographers’ Gallery and the surrounding streets are the perfect space to showcase free displays for the public in a highly impactful and visual way.”

At EcoPrint, we are proud to have Kavalan as a headline partner for the EcoPrint Initiative as their vision is so committed to sustainable innovation for wide format printing production. We asked Nova Abbott, Head of Marketing at Kavalan about her thoughts on this particular work: “It's great to see Kavalan Sunlight Weldable banner's transformation of these iconic London streets into an outdoor gallery. It's like looking into the future. A future where we can breathe life into projects like this ground-breaking art exhibition in a more innovative and sustainable way, without compromising the vibrancy and impact of the work, or the strength and durability required for long-lasting outdoor installations. With Kavalan, that PVC-free future is already here.”
